The Artists

{slight} (Victoria Payton and Digger Nutter)
Central Void Sculpture, and advice on layout and commissioning of artworks
Slight is a creative partnership between Victoria Payton and Digger Nutter, both Glasgow School of Art graduates, based in Glasgow. Over the eight years of their partnership, they have focussed on projects incorporating the use of space by both individuals and communities; an acknowledgement of time and progressive change; and the transformation of the familiar into the inspirational, motivating and significant.

Mary Carol Souness
Woven Panels
Mary Carol is based in Fort William and is a traditional weaver who recently graduated from Cumbria Institute of the Arts.

Alistair Smyth
Painting ‘The Gathering’
Until 2004 Alistair was the principal teacher of Art at Lochaber High School in a department that was highly regarded for its exceptional pass rate and the outstanding quality of the students' work. Now retired, Alistair is a renowned Lochaber based painter who uses a variety of grounds and is noted for his use of low relief, decorative borders on social, religious and historial work. Primarily a painter of people, Alistair has an eclectic approach, finding inspiration in the people and landscapes of the West Coast of Scotland, which provide the source material for his social-historical, religious and literary subjects.

Andrew Stewart
Painting ‘Aonach Dubh’
Andrew trained in Fine Art (drawing and painting) at Duncan of Jordanstone. A landscape specialist, Andy moved over to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula to capture the essence of the West Coast, and aid in the development of Resipole Studios with colleague Andrew Sinclair. His work uses traditional compositional devices and techniques, reflecting the traditional landscape of the West Coast.

Andrew Sinclair
Painting ‘Late Night Session’
Andrew trained in Fine Art (drawing and painting) at Duncan of Jordanstone, and is founder and proprietor of Resipole Studios. Andrew is predominantly figurative in his approach, using a very traditional basis for his painting. His influences range from artists like Valesquez and Rembrandt to the more contemporary Norwegian painter Od Nerdrum. Painting in the manner of the 'chiaroscuro' style, i.e. using strong contrasting tones to recreate form, Andrew creates a window into real-life scenes with compositions ranging from intimacy to larger group works.

Laura Kingswood
Plants and Spirographs
Laura is the Artist in Residence at Room 13 based in Caol Primary School. She studied at the University of Northumbria and Goldsmith's College, London before returning to Lochaber in 2004. Laura is a conceptual artist who uses many found objects, transforming and changing their functionality.

Dufi
Stencil Art for Community Room
Dufi is the artistic collaboration of photographic artist Fin Macrae and graphic and interior designer Al MacInnes. Based in the Highlands, both are well known in their respective fields and are increasingly becoming renowned for their love of image making using street style and stencil art.

Emma Butler Cole Aiken
Stained Glass
Emma is a highly accomplished stained glass artist who is based in Edinburgh and trained at Edinburgh College of Art where she is now a visiting tutor. Emma regularly visits the Highlands and is fascinated by the landscape and culture of the area.

Brian Dickie
Family of Drips
Based in Ballachulish, Brian works with found and recycled scrap materials to create imaginary and bizarre creatures with the intention to amuse, but also to comment on today's society.

Exterior Signage
Jamie runs All Round Signs, a Lochaber based sign shop, and is also a visual artist who trained at Gray's School of Art.

Jayne Stephen
Aluminium Panels
Jayne is a textile designer who studied at Glasgow School of Art, and now lives and works in Fort William, running design company 'Hub-Hub', making unique wearable and fun accessories from recycled fabrics.

Photography
Alex is a well-known Lochaber photographer who captures images of industrial, commercial and landscape with an emphasis on his personal interpretation of the scene. Alex has captured some of the most iconic Lochaber images over his 26 years as a photographer.

Painting "Grandmothering Earth"
James' work explores the human condition, its varied cultures and civilisations, and attempts to manipulate what he believes to be the essential ingredients of this human condition into pictoral language. James studied at Gray's School of Art and lives in Spean Bridge, working on many film and TV productions, in addition to his arts practice.
