Artworks

Artists were invited to provide proposals for the interior artwork to be housed in the health centre. The majority of commissions were awarded to Lochaber based artists, with three commissions being awarded to artists based outwith the area. The commissions were:

• 2D and 3D artwork for the foyer, mall, corridors and waiting areas of the centre.
• Glass art commission for the four waiting areas.

Themes of the artwork were required to reflect contemporary and traditional Highland Life and Culture unique to the area of Lochaber to celebrate the Year of Highland Culture 2007. We also wanted some of the artworks to include reference to historical key characters whose achievements have been influential in the health services within Lochaber. All the artworks had to be suitable for a therapeutic health care environment.

Any medium could be used in the artworks - paint, drawing, collage, photography, print-making, ceramic, textile, or sculptural. In addition, artists were encouraged to include an element of outreach work with local schools and community groups where appropriate to their work.
